But what is Licor 43? Where can I buy it? How to serve Licor 43? What Licor 43 cocktails are there? We aim to answer all these questions, and more.
Licor 43 Original is a premium liqueur produced in Cartegena – an ancient port in the Murcia region of southeast Spain. It is based on a closely-guarded secret Spanish family recipe of 43 natural ingredients which includes Mediterranean citrus fruits and selected botanicals. Licor 43 Original is 31% ABV.
Licor 43 was invented in 1946 by Diego, Angel and Josefina Zamora and her husband Emilio Restoy. They based their unique recipe on “Liqvor Mirabilis” which translates as “marvellous liquid” – a golden aromatic elixir created in the 3rd century, from infused fruits and herbs. The Romans banned its production and consumption in 209 BC, yet the Carthaginians defied this and continued to produce it in secret.
The name Liqor 43 and its unique flavours are derived from its fusion of 43 natural ingredients. According to Licor 43’s philosophy, the Licor 43 expert is the only person authorised by the founding Zamora family to manage the “elaboration” of the liqueurs. The exact recipe is shrouded in mystery and is why Licor 43 has such a distinctive taste savoured by not only Spaniards. Today, it is the most popular liqueur in Spain.
The original which is a wonderfully smooth and golden award-winning liqueur. It has a unique golden glow that reflects its Mediterranean heritage. Perfect pure with or without ice, or as the main event in a cocktail.
All 43 ingredients used to create Licor 43 Original are natural. Its secret combination of characteristic botanicals and Mediterranean citrus fruits are the essence of Licor 43. Only the highest quality ingredients are used. But how does it taste?
The flavour of Licor 43 is complex, yet harmonic. It combines four key elements:
· Lively citrus aromas of Mediterranean citrus gardens.
· Subtle botanics with a touch of coriander.
· Sweet palate of mature fruits heightened with a touch of vanilla.
· Floral notes of Mediterranean orange and lemon blossom, with citrus peel.
Suitable for vegans and vegetarians, Licor 43 Original is gluten-free and contains no nuts or eggs.
Inspired by one of the most famous desserts in the world, Licor 43 Crème Brûlée is a delicious after dinner digestive. It has all the citrus and botanicals of the original Licor 43 but also burnt sugar and creamy vanilla with a magical hint of salted caramel. Fabulous chilled – even better with ice.
The actual process for creating Licor 43 is a closely guarded family secret know only to one person… the Licor 43 expert. That is the only person authorised to manage the creation of these premium liqueurs. What we can reveal though is the following steps:
· Ingredients are carefully selected to match the profile of Licor 43’s characteristic botanicals and citrus fruits.
· Maximum flavour and aromas are extracted by macerating the ingredients in a blend of water and alcohol.
· A special fusion process ensures all Licor 43 ingredients are combined in precise proportions.
· Licor 43 then rests in stainless steel tanks for 6 to 9 months – the precise time is decided by the liqueur expert.
· Licor 43 is then given a cold treatment for 5 days at -5º C to achieve a perfect, smooth finish.
· Finally, Licor 43 is filtered using micro-filters to remove the finest of particles and enhance its shiny golden colour.
