Bodegas Martínez Lacuesta was founded in 1895 in Haro by Félix Martínez Lacuesta. A winemaker, lawyer, politician and publicist, he was the first president of the National Association of Winegrowers and Wine Industries, as well as of the Rioja Wine Union. He was also one of the creators of the Regulating Board of D.O. Rioja, where he represented his fellow winemakers.
Faithful to Martinez Lacuesta’s style, the wine is subject to traditional fermentation, with destemming, a light pressing and fermentation in vats. In January 2019, the wine passed to American oak casks where it aged for almost two years. The wine was then decanted four times using our traditional gravity method. It was bottled in late 2020 for a subsequent ageing, one of the keys to the production of their classic wines.
Martinez Lacuesta Crianza 2020 is a wine with a great frankness and aromatic intensity in which ripe fruit predominates: raspberries, red cherries, wild strawberries and redcurrants over a balsamic background of vanilla, toasted caramel, biscuits, coffee and sweet mint. On the palate there is great freshness and balance with smooth, amiable tannins. The aromatic harmony persists in the finish, with jammy red fruit, prunes, coffee, vanilla and caramel notes. A refined Haro vintage that is true to its origins.
