Matsu wine is from a historic Spanish wine region – the Toro Denomination of Origin. Bodegas Matsu is a tribute to all viticulturists who have worked in the vineyards of the Toro region of Spain for centuries.
Basco is delighted to stock three types of Matsu red wine and a white – Matsu El Viejo, Matsu El Recio, Matsu El Picaro and Matsu La Jefa. Matsu wine is of exceptional quality and widely celebrated in wine spheres.
Matsu translates from the Japanese ‘to wait’ which perfectly encapsulates the philosophy of the bodegas. Matsu’s mature vines in century-old Toro vineyards create wines with diverse and wonderfully complex flavour profiles.
The vines are cultivated according to the tradition of not interfering with the logical processes dictated by nature. Matsu collaborates with small wine growers, helping to promote the economy of the area and preventing a large number of centenary vineyards from being abandoned or uprooted.
Want to taste all three Matsu red wines or need a unique high-quality gift for a red wine lover? The Matsu Tasting Box from Basco contains a bottle of Matsu El Picaro, Matsu El Recio and Matsu El Viejo. Exclusive in the UK to Basco, the Matsu Wine Tasting Box comes in a special wooden gift box and makes an impressive present.
Toro is in the province of Zamora, northwest of Castile and Léon. Bodega Matsu lies just three miles east of Toro and is situated on an elevated plateau which provides the perfect environment and conditions, including sandy soils with high granitic stones for grape growing and producing Matsu wine. The Toro region is widely regarded for its high-quality, robust wines and its old vineyards.
At Bodegas Matsu, the established vines are cultivated according to the tradition of not interfering with the logical processes dictated by nature. The climatic conditions and the sandy soils for Matsu wine mean that there is little need to apply chemical treatments. Biodynamic, certified organic farming means the process of winemaking is sustainable and all grapes are harvested by hand. It is an artisanal viticulture method for creating Matsu wine which is entrusted to the expert hands of those who have been working these vineyards all their lives.
Basco stocks all four Matsu wine types which provide an excellent and diverse case for Toro wine.
